About Surfer's Ear

Surfer's ear is a condition that causes the outer part of the ear canal to become blocked with a bony growth. This can lead to hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and ear pain. Surfer's ear is most common in people who spend a lot of time in cold water, such as surfers, swimmers, and divers. The cold water can cause the ear canal to become inflamed, which can lead to the growth of bone.

Observation

If the bony growth is small and not causing any symptoms, your audiologist may recommend observation. This means that you will be monitored for any changes in your hearing or other symptoms.
